Support Cycling in San Diego

Some of you have heard that there is a proposed measure to include a Mountain Bike and BMX Skills park into the Mission Trails Regional Plan. All San Diego cyclists really need to rally behind this measure because it will provide another venue where we can exercise our privilege of riding a bicycle in a more localized area to improve our cycling skills. I am a really big fan of the measure as the way it reads, it will cost Zero tax dollars and will be funded and run entirely through fundraisers, donations, and volunteers efforts. No one loses and we ALL gain. Please take a moment today to sign the petition at San Diego Bike Skills Park Petition and be sure to tell all of your friends to sign it too.

We’re Looking for You!

We’re Looking for You!

Hi everybody,

We’re approaching Spring and the shop’s 7 month anniversary. The shop is doing great, albeit a bit on the messy side, but I thought it’d be time to start some of the projects I’ve been meaning to get going. In particular, I wanted to start a racing team for the shop. Please stop by or call if you’re interested as I’m looking for some good people to represent the shop who are fun-minded and want to encourage others to ride their bikes. Skill level is not important, just that you get out there. Hope to hear from you soon.

If you’re free tomorrow evening, please feel free to join my friends and family at Bar Eleven on El Cajon Blvd. at 8 p.m.

Wet and Wild here in San Diego

Post By Eric ~ 21st December 2010

Wet and Wild here in San Diego

Today is one of those rare days in town where we are actually getting a real dose of rain from up above.  It’s a nice change of pace for our usually gorgeous weather, but as sun-driven as I am, it makes it a little difficult to find inspiration in the day.  This usually calls for a “lazy” day and to avoid the madness that is out there, but I am truly in the mood to be productive.

I can’t really recommend going out for a ride for a couple of reasons.  For us mountain bikers, the local trails, just don’t heal very well.  On top of that, I don’t know if I even own a set of tires that’ll handle the mud without totally collecting it between the rubber and my frame.  A road ride could be in order, but riding the road when cars can barely see each other, can quite literally be suicide.  They have a hard enough time seeing us cyclists when it’s clear outside.   There’s always the trainer option, but I know that’ll make me go crazy.  What to do?

I think today will be a run and gym day.  Run and the gym, I say?  Yes, I most certainly do.  Days like this are a great way to cross-train for us cyclists.  Cross training in general is actually quite helpful to our cycling.  On the technical side of things, other sports use other muscles we don’t normally use while cycling.  Running and lifting weights, specifically, put a bit of impact on the bones, which helps prevent osteoporosis that cyclists are actually prone to, because of the lack of impact that our lifestyle provides.  On an additional note, time off the bike, just helps us appreciate our cycling more.  A change of pace never hurts right.

Well, enough blabbing from me.  It really is beautiful outside, and I’m going to enjoy it.  How often do we get to “run in the rain?”

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all,

Eric

Got this link from the SDCBC… It’s funny how everytime someone researches the effect that cycling has on the environment and on their personal well being it always comes out in the GREEN both literally and figuratively : D
